アジア奥地や中東、アフリカでのトヨタランドクルーザーの存在感は圧倒的である。パキスタンからタリバン政権がアフガンに撤退する際、ランクルとピックアップトラックのトヨタ・ハイラックスの車列が続いていたのを覚えている。
アフリカでも警察から村長、NPO、密売組織に至るまでランクルこそがステータスであり、信頼できる道具だった。
悪路が続くチベットでも例外ではなく、写真のように互いに別々の車だが、いつしかランクルの車列となり、同じコンボイで何時間も走り続けることになる。時折、見かけるトラックやミニバスはこのコンボイには参加出来ない。トヨタの偉大さを体感できる。
